Fabrics, sewing, unpicking and holes..

Inspired by the lack of innovation in the way fashion is currently moving in Singapore, I have taken to creating a few pieces of "simplistic" looking pieces as a mean of countering the lack of variety in my wardobe lately.  I must say that the response hasn't been anything near encouraging.

Weary of skimpily short dresses or frocks that i see EVERYWHERE, I've taken to sewing an AA inspired knee length dress in minty turquoise  (it somehow looked alot shorter in the picture though...).
The first person who laid her eyes (aside from myself) exclaimed, "Is that a PJ you're wearing?" followed by isn't the material alittle thin and tight fitting?"
Well, thanks mom. :(

Da's response was a little more enthusiastic. She asked for a piece to be made for her in white, but something shorter, with a big, low neck scoop at the back. hmmm

Valda said it was nice.

Baby said he doesn't like the side of the hemlines.
Oh well, I dont think I'm able to please everyone...
But it really doesn't look too bad what!

I'm currently toiling over my grapefruit pink skirt! A summer inspired tiered skirt, this piece is absolutely disgusting to create! Drafting and cutting the fabric alone, took me hours for i had to ensure that the fabrics eventually piece up into layers of near perfect circles!
Assembling and sewing it up took up even more time!
Sadly, i was displeased with my own sewing skills, therefore I have resorted to unpicking the entire skirt, and redo-ing it again!
The heap of wasted thread kept growing from all the unpicking that i've accomplished, and the edges of the skirt is now super hole-ly!
I am determined to sew the skirt better this time!

Mommy stares at my pile of excess fabric, work tools, sewing machine strewn all over her living room every night, occasionally reminding me that she'll like her floor clean and pretty.

Well, after my grapefruit summer skirt, i think i might venture onto yet another dress or skirt in white, followed by a rumi inspired skirt ( colors undecided yet) :)
Yay!
Now every knows what I've really been up to these days..
tee hee hee!
poor mommy. ☺

A love so beautiful

Have you ever wondered how "happily ever after" couples in fairy tales really lived their lives when you were young?
I did.

As a kid, my ideals used to be obnoxiously elaborate, where Aurora from Sleeping Beauty would be able to sleep as much as she would want to, in her pretty castle, and wake up only to dress up for parties and dances that she and her prince would hold in their grand castle every night!
While Cinderella's was similar, only that hers variate a little in priority, that she  would have her fill of glass slippers,  in all the random design and colors that she can dream of, and fill up her wardrobe with as many dresses as possible.

Of course the ideal castle of theirs would look grand on the outside, and have all sort of bizarre ornaments that could rival what Alice saw in Wonderland.
That was my perception of living happily ever after.

Ideals then changed and reshaped - being older, wiser, and less imaginative, I realized that living happily ever is nowhere as colorful as my childhood depiction, but still sweet.

In an era where getting a divorce is as common as a purchasing a pack of candy, where people take others for granted, become more heartless and left their affections and ability to love buried deep under the crust of the earth, I must say that I've  been fortunate to have the chance to catch glimpses of a more realistic version of happily ever after of sorts, that has moulded valuable life lessons for me.

I have learnt from a very positive, cheerful and loving couple, that love IS possible, despite the regularity of the daily routine even after twenty to thirty years of marriage, so long as one learns not to take things for granted, the smallest chore done out of normalcy, is surely fueled by love, care and affection.

Take what i saw a couple of nights ago for example, Baby and I were strolling back to the car after dinner in town one evening, and we saw a very frail and old lady, accompanied by an equally frail and old man on a walking stick, walking down the pavement ever so slowly hand in hand.

I smiled and thought to myself for a moment, that's what i call love.
and baby said to me, "take a picture of them!"
So there you go, nothing near an award winning shot, with horrible lighting, but our best shot of the loving couple tottering down the pavement, hand in hand, happily ever after.

The month of May

Yoo hoo!
I decided on a random evening that i'll need a pair of heart shaped shades for no reasons, and here you go!
♥♥!
I'm rather pleased with it, even though it looks vaguely ridiculous to wear out publicly!
But i did wear it out for lunch with baby some weekends ago...
Well, when i stepped into the living room, baby flashed me an incredulous look, and asked skeptically if i'm wearing it out?"
I beamed at him and replied "Yeah! Let's go, i'm hungry!"
Hahah! Those ♥ shades had to see light at least once, dont they? :D

Many celebrations happened in the month of May, there's Valda's birthday that we celebrated - All the colleagues chipped in and purchased a dining voucher for The Line at Shangri-la for her.
There's also Ben's birthday....
A week later, it was Audrey's birthday, and so after contemplating for the longest time,
I've decided on her present!
As the bestie is currently still residing in Indo, I got to do the present selection all alone, and i must say that I'm rather pleased with my choice!
(Since he brain stormed Audrey's present last year, so it's kind of fair that I do my share this year! )
So i got her a rose gold guess necklace!
I thought the rose gold shade looks pretty unique, and most importantly, it's pretty!!!
I liked it so much that i bought myself the exact design in bracelet.
Unfortunately, the rose gold look sick on my skin, and I chose the bracelet in silver instead. :(

I met Audrey at Canele for dinner, and we stuffed ourselves with loads of delicious food!
If you squint hard enough, you can see the necklace sitting on Audrey's pretty neck!
--
Days later, i attended Liang Tai's wedding on Mother's day!
It was a fun event as usual, with all the happy, wild colleagues, life really doesn't get too boring.

Baby came to get me after the dinner, and while waiting for him to buy stuff, i decided to fool around with mirror!
Genny was gone a few days later! :'(
This was probably my last few shots in the car! Boo!
(But hello, shiny new car! I'll cam whore with u soon!)

and to end it off, a trigger happy series of us!
We had a mini competition between us, to see who could undo those Mshaped IQ puzzle the fastest! Hahaha! Wanna guess who emerged as the winner?

earphones part 2

On a hind note, I was relating to baby that earphone manufacturers SHOULD hire me to test the durability of their earphones, and he laughed!

He also suggested that I could start a website and peddle my services. Some names that he suggested to me goes:

earphonereviews.com
canyoustomponyourearphones.com
myearphoneisbetterthanyours.com
beatupyourearphones.com

My personal favourite would go to beatupyourearphones.com
and because he is ever so helpful, I should also set up this : mybflovestobanterwithme.com
Hahahah!

*shortly after, the sister said to me on msn.. " eh, I'm going to get you earphones for all future  birthdays and christmas every year. Saves me the trouble of fretting over presents"
Something like that.
Hahahahah.

Earphone woes

Damn! It seems like some sort of earphone jinx that I am experiencing here!
My earphones never had decent lifespan of the average!!
They usually do not even last for a year!
In the span of approximately a year and a half, a total of 5 earphones has perished under the careful supervision of Daphne....
Seriously, it is baffling, but there is nothing that i can do about it!

#1 The orignal white earphones

The white earphones that came packaged with my nano died within 6 months. Cause of death?
I trod it to death by accident. The little paper piece in the earphone then played horrible cackley music when plugged it in. Oh well, my bad!

#2 The replacement white earphones

It turned into a shade of dirty grey rather quickly, and the replacement earphone didnt last past 2 months!
Cause of death?
In my attempt to prevent future stampede deaths,  i decided to coil the earphones around the nano, and it also neatened my bag considerably!
Well that coiling apparently killed the wiring, and music was only coming out frm one ear! Urgh!

#3 Blackie with baby pink earbuds

Gah! Being sick of looking at dirty white earphones, I bought blacky from the same reseller, and i threw a mini tantrum about the bad quality earphones (and promptly feigned denial about coiling the earphones) that was sold to me previously, which resulted in my purchase of Blackie at a heavily discounted price!
Blackie lasted for 4 months, and soon died the same way #2 died.

#4 The sci-fi tricolored earphones

This one lasted the longest, and i was pretty impressed that it not only looks pleasing, but it is also hardy enough to survive the tangles with the contents in my bag, and actually behaved like how all earphones are supposed to!
Unfortunately, 7 months later, it died a natural death of wear and tear - as i am currently listening to intermitted music on one ear as i travel. :(

#5 The black heart shaped earphones with pink rhinestone/diamonte

This pretty little thing took over the duties of earphone #4 for a couple of months, until it went for a 30 minute swim in my office cup.
Like a typical diving ailment that one may experience, it is currently deafer on one ear... which led to #4 making a comeback, only for me to realise that it's giving me intermittent music after a month. Damn again!

#6 The white heart shaped earphones with silver white rhinestones/diamante

Brand new! This fella is going to make its way out of the box when i get home tonight, lets just pray hard that it would not perish quickly like it's predecessors!
